Last race, Reece Butcher became a storyline for the wrong reasons after causing the leaders to wreck mid-race. This week, Butcher came around and took the victory at Delaware Speedway, the first short track race of the season, in a wild way. Andrew Golden was in the lead with Butcher in second just before Golden came to the pits nearing two laps to go because he was running out of fuel. Many cars had the same issue, but Butcher was able to prevail and make it through the final laps of the race. Paul Brenner came home second three-and-a-half seconds behind Butcher. Barry Golberg, NascarFan1418 and Harry Sorah rounded out the top five.
Three Takeaways: Brenner Streak: With his second place finish, Brenner has now finished in the top ten in three of the first four races of the season. He’s got a spot in the Chase with his win at Seattle, but his excellent performance is setting him up to guarantee he stays in the top 35. #7 Gaining Momentum: NascarFan1418 hasn’t gotten a victory yet, but his second and fourth place finishes the past two races has him third in the standings, the highest for a non-winner. While there are enough races to be filled by winners, there is still the possibility for a repeat winner or a winner who does not make the top 35. The #7 driver needs to keep up the pace to either grab a victory or make it on points alone. Keeping It Clean: The race at Delaware only saw one caution flag, the lowest so far this season, after Golberg turned Grayson Acevedo in turn one. The short track tempers kept to themselves as the aggression was lower than what we would expect from this type of track. Sorah, John Arndt, and Harrison Butt caused a scare on the backstretch after making contact, but all the drivers maintained control. |
