He was not able to stay free of incident during the session, though, as the #3 got collected in a minor multi-car incident that started with playoff contender Tyler Reid running into the back of Roger Rey, who was entering the track. However, Young's involvement was light enough that the primary truck was able to get repaired.
Meanwhile, the Chase competitors did not fare well at all, with Adam Coon having the best lap at 10th place. Four of the drivers well within 10th-17th, while all others were 27th or lower, with Reid coming in last, a full tenth off of Young. "I don't want to put too much stock into the practice times," Reid said. "It's a small track and there was always traffic, just nowhere to get clean air."
